As part of an electrical refit, this Hanse 470e was digitized and fitted with a custom-made solar system. Black solar panels provide a modern design and stretch the yacht visually.
The removable covers of the halyard tunnels are ideal for such a system: There is enough space underneath for wiring and a watertight cable feed-through, in addition the modules are easy to attach thanks to the smooth laminate.
The installation using pre-mounted adhesive creates a walkable surface without visible wires, the solar panels’ structured surface increases grip with boat shoes. Three integrated bypass diodes per side combined with two synchronized Victron SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers ensure high shade tolerance and maximum energy yield even in difficult lighting conditions.
Electrical interconnections and cell connectors have been covered in black to emphasize the modules’ shape and hide the individual solar cells. This results in a homogeneous, slightly curved surface following the shape of the deck. After digital measurement and planning, the contours and cable positions were checked on board using printed 1:1 paper templates.
288Wp provide a daily energy yield between 85 and 130Ah at 13V in summer, which is sufficient to run the fridge, lights and instruments. This means that several days can be spent at anchor without having to start the engine to charge the batteries.
